Shu application update - 15.04.08

We have been in ongoing discussions with Adobe regarding AIR redistribution in our product Shu and in turn, redistribution in Shu output applications.

As yet, Adobe have not granted us a license to embed AIR in our Shu packager application or grant us a license that allows redistribution of Shu output applications which have the runtime embedded.

We have therefore made some, hopefully temporary, changes to the Shu packager. Firstly, the Shu packager application is no longer an AIR application itself wrapped in Shu. Secondly, because the Shu packager no longer has AIR embedded, it will prompt you for location of an AIR runtime during packaging.

Where does that leave you?

Your final applications are still the same. They will still run standalone. However, you are required by Adobe to seek a case by case runtime redistribution agreement.

This is the same situation as executables output with popular swf2exe tools, in that they embed the Flash Player in a manner not allowed by Adobe. However, we feel this is not a desirable situation and so will continue discussions with Adobe to try and get some kind of license that allows you to redistribute your Shu output applications which embed AIR.

Until then, you will need to seek agreement from Adobe, just as you should if using an swf2exe tool.

Please note that the standard AIR and Flash player redistributions are not sufficient.
